The initial assessment visit

At Dr. Claudio Gioia Dental Surgery the initial assessment visit is free of charge.

That is to say, this service is provided at no extra cost to patients. During this appointment we assess patients’ oral health, make an accurate diagnosis and recommend the best form of treatment according to their individual needs.

The first appointment also consists of taking a detailed case history of the patient. All information provided by the patient and on which the initial assessment is based is recorded for the sole purpose of administering personalised treatment. Should the patient decide not to receive such treatment, the dental surgery undertakes not to use said data for information purposes or disclose it to third parties. Patient confidentiality is paramount and will always be observed.

In order to give a diagnosis, the following steps will be taken:

History taking, including medical and dental.

Extraoral and intraoral clinical examination.

X-ray examination comprising:

- intraoral periapical dental X-rays

- panoramic scanning dental X-rays (orthopantomograms)

Photographs to assess the condition of patient's mouth and dento-facial aesthetics.

The diagnosis is clearly the result of teamwork—the dentist assessing the patient will discuss his or her dental health condition with other professional specialists at the surgery and decide on the most suitable treatment. Afterwards, the dentist will establish a firm diagnosis, which will be explained to the patient together with the appropriate treatment plan. At all stages the dentist will be pleased to discuss any doubts the patient may have.

At the end of this first visit, our Patient Care staff will provide the patient with a written report as to their test results, diagnosis, a treatment plan and time scale and price quotation for them to make a well-informed decision.
